Goffstown High School Performs The Tempest

Goffstown High School’s Performing Arts Department proudly presents Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, 7:30 p.m. at the school’s Craig Hieber Auditorium.  According to director, Curt McDermott, the production features a recent adaptation of Shakespeare’s work by John Flood and Peter Gould for Brattleboro, Vermont’s Get Thee to the Funnery Festival.  “This abridged version of Shakespeare’s capstone comedy pits a vengeful magician, Prospero, against his scheming usurpers, now shipwrecked on the island he controls. With two Ariels and a mutinous Caliban as his supernatural servants, Prospero must punish the castaways for their decade-old treachery, stave off an assassination attempt from two power-mad drunkards, and engineer a royal wedding for his beautiful daughter.”

The production features students Elijah Williams as Prospero, Arden Brenan and Connor Hager as Ariel, and Sam Martel as Caliban. Williams starred in last fall’s Dracula.  Arden Brenan said, “I love working with our talented cast, especially our graduating seniors.”  As with most of the Performing Arts’ productions, students not only perform on stage, they also manage key technical roles.  Abigail Desrosiers is a student and choreographer for the production.  She said, “The Tempest will give the audience a story to remember.”

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and are available at the door.  For more information, contact Curt McDermott at 497-4841 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
