Lice Letter
There have been questions raised in reference to Head Lice. I have put together a few facts about head lice. The information I am listing is cumulative information I have received from the following websites. These websites can be accessed by everyone and are easy to use. Please feel free to browse these sites, in the search field type in head lice or lice.

Signs of Head Lice: Child scratching their head, scratch marks at the base of the child’s head, small red bumps or sores from scratching.
Checking for Head Lice: Looking at your child’s head with the naked eye you may or may not see the lice. If you suspect your child has lice the best way to find them is with a magnifying glass and a bright light. Go through your child’s hair by sections. Lice like to be near the scalp and around the back of the ears.
As you are checking for lice you are not only looking for lice that are small fast moving insects, but you are looking for the “nits”. Nits are the “eggs” of lice. Nits look like dandruff; they are white and are usually stuck onto the hair shaft. It is very important to get the nits out. A fine toothcomb does this.
If you suspect and cannot find anything, please call the School Nurse.
Treatment: There are a few different over the counter treatments that are first recommended. After the third try with over the counter treatments your physician may recommend an alternative.
