SAT Prep Courses at the GAP
By Shannon HayesMost juniors will be taking the SATs at least once between this spring and the fall of their senior year. For the majority of colleges and universities, the SATs factor greatly into whether or not a potential student will be accepted. Because of this, it is highly advised that students who are looking to attend college take an SAT prep course at least once to see how their scores improve. Goffstown’s evening program (GAP) offers two SAT prep courses every spring and fall: Math and English. Each course is one night a week, and the class size ranges between 12 and 15 students. Completion of the course now offers students credit to match their driver’s education credit.
One of the most important things students learn in the course is how to recognize and understand the types of questions on each section of the SAT. As a timed test, students will have more time to consider each question if they don’t have to read the instructions for each section. Peter Galamaga, instructor of the English SAT course, says that attitude going into the test is a huge part of success at the SATs. In high school, Mr. Galamaga qualified as a National Merit Scholar from his PSAT scores, and says that “if [he] can do it, anyone can.”
